Faculty of Geology and Mining
The Faculty of Engineering Geology and Mining at Jowzjan University, established in 1993, became the second faculty in the country to specialize in the fields of engineering geology and mining, following the Faculty of Engineering Geology and Mining at Kabul Polytechnic University. Its primary mission is to train highly skilled academic personnel in engineering disciplines. Under the esteemed leadership of Professor Dr. Saifullah Rasikh, the faculty commenced its academic and scientific activities within the framework of the Institute of Mines and Industries of Jowzjan.
Between 1995 and 2009, the faculty was led by a series of distinguished individuals, including Professor Engineer Gul Ahmad Fazli, Professor Engineer Juma Khan, Professor Engineer Abdul Ahad Holkar, and Professor Engineer Gulam Sakhy Nazari, all of whom served as acting heads and subsequently as permanent heads of the faculty. Since 2009, Professor Engineer Mohamadi Taghyan has held the position of Dean, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment. Under his direction, the faculty has made significant strides, introducing numerous innovations and achieving remarkable milestones.
Currently, the faculty's academic staff comprises 34 members, including 14 with Master's degrees, 17 with Bachelor's degrees, and 3 pursuing doctoral studies. The faculty's academic staff holds ranks ranging from Professor to Associate Professor, contributing to a dynamic and highly qualified team.
The faculty is home to 734 students, of whom 678 are male and 56 are female. These students are engaged in rigorous academic programs, which are taught by faculty members holding academic ranks from Associate Professor to Professor. The programs offered include Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees.
In pursuit of enhancing the academic qualifications of its teaching staff, eight faculty members have been sent abroad for further studies in countries such as Japan, Tajikistan, Turkey, and China, with the aim of advancing their education to the Master's and Doctoral levels. To date, the faculty has graduated a total of 1,672 engineers, of whom 1,529 are male and 143 are female. These graduates have successfully entered the professional workforce as Bachelor-level engineers.
The Faculty of Engineering Geology and Mining comprises six departments, five of which offer graduated programs, while one remains ongoing.
- Department of Geology, Exploration and Extraction of Oil and Gas Fields
- Department of Geological Engineering and Exploration of Solid Minerals
- Department of Geodesy Engineering
- Department of Solid Minerals Mining
- Department of Environmental Protection
- Department of General Technical Subjects (Non-Graduate)
In 2019 (1398), the twentieth graduation round of this faculty took place, with successful diploma defense projects in various economically significant topics, including the departments of Solid Mineral Exploration, Oil and Gas, Engineering Geodesy, and Solid Mineral Extraction. After successfully defending their thesis projects in front of the thesis defense commission and holding grand ceremonies, the graduates were awarded their Bachelor's degrees in Engineering.
The study period in this faculty lasts four and a half years, during which students receive educational services based on a well-defined curriculum. The Faculty of Geological Engineering and Mining educates young individuals, equipping them with knowledge and skills, and prepares them as young engineers and specialists in engineering fields to meet the needs of the labor market, ultimately contributing to the strengthening of the national economy by awarding Bachelor's degrees in Engineering.
