Department of General Technical Subjects

History of the Department

The Department of General Technical Subjects is an active department within the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining. It was established in 1994 and commenced its academic activities at the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining at Jawzjan University. The first head of the department was Mr. Rahmat Jabali, who dedicated himself to enhancing the quality of education, equipping youth with knowledge, and guiding them towards obtaining bachelor's degrees to serve the oppressed community of the country.

Currently, this department comprises six faculty members holding doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees, ranging from Assistant Professor to Professor. They are engaged in teaching fundamental subjects such as advanced mathematics, engineering physics, electrotechnics, thermodynamics, occupational safety, computer fundamentals, and English language skills across three engineering faculties: the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining; the Faculty of Civil Engineering; and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. Among the faculty, two are female, and one is pursuing a master's degree in Turkey.

In addition to teaching, the faculty members are involved in scientific research activities, including the extraction of articles from conducted research and publishing them in reputable national and international scientific journals. Their active participation in scientific workshops and methodologies aimed at enhancing academic capacities is a significant part of their responsibilities. The Department of General Technical Subjects is not merely a graduating department; it has a coherent and systematic plan, contributing effectively and efficiently alongside other departments within the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining for the development and advancement of the engineering faculties at Jawzjan University.

Objectives of the Department 

  1. Educating engineering students with an Islamic spirit and commitment to the national interests of the country.
  2. Qualitatively and quantitatively enhancing the academic staff of the department.
  3. Establishing standard classrooms and laboratories in accordance with the subjects and fields of study.
  4. Creating a conducive academic environment for the growth of student talents and fostering cooperation among the academic staff.
  5. Sending faculty members for quality enhancement training both domestically and internationally through a systematic plan.
  6. Organizing and enhancing the capacities and alternatives for the growth and strengthening of the department.
  7. Establishing and reinforcing mutual relations with domestic and international academic institutions.
  8. Ensuring proper communication and creating incentives for utilizing local resources and capacities.
  9. Fostering a spirit of initiative and resource-seeking among all influential members.

It is important to note that in all societies, to achieve the desired objectives, there exist both strengths and weaknesses within an organization, as well as favorable conditions and external threats that may influence its development.

Vision 

The Department of General Technical Subjects at the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining of Jawzjan University aims to establish a department with faculty members holding doctoral and master's degrees who are committed to the country and possess high academic capabilities. The goal is to provide advanced educational services that meet the needs of regional development, national growth, and the improvement of public welfare, thereby presenting specialized young engineers to society. To achieve this, the establishment of an effective and reputable administration is essential. Additionally, we find it necessary to consider the transformations and advancements of other academic institutions in Afghanistan during our academic and scientific activities, so as to gain recognition from the scientific community of our country.

Mission 

The Department of General Technical Subjects at the Faculty of Engineering, Geology, and Mining of Jawzjan University, as a reputable department, comprises experienced and professional faculty members with academic ranks ranging from Professor to Assistant Professor and holding degrees at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Alongside other engineering departments, they are prepared to serve in teaching fundamental subjects and are continually engaged in conducting scientific and academic research in their respective fields. The faculty members utilize modern technology, adhere to Islamic and professional ethics, and are committed to addressing societal and environmental issues while training skilled professionals to meet the labor market and community needs through their scientific and academic efforts.
